All eyes were on Nintendo already weeks before E3 but did the Big N showcase the Wii U well or did it fail to win the hearts of the all important hardcore and development communities? Is this truly a next generation console or an upgrade of the existing Wii?
To be blatantly honest, the Nintendo Presentation fell short of our expectations with the lack of first party content that actually showcase the revolutionary way the Wii U GamePad would work. Although Nintendo already announced beforehand that it is rushing its resources to get the Wii U ready for E3, it doesn't look that much like the explosion we were expecting.
That aside Nintendo did showcase that it is getting more third party support with the new Wii U with its partners from Ubisoft, who brings Assassin's Creed 3 to the table, and Warner Brother Studio, with Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition. Though these may not seem like new games that we haven't heard of but it's meant to showcase the support Nintendo is getting especially from third parties here in America. Ubisoft announced a nice line up of games yet not any that demonstrates the full capability of the systems.
Addressing that, no game has actually pushed the system to the limit, in graphics, in gameplay, nor in concept. But according to Nintendo, this is just an introduction but of course we we wishing for more. But Nintendo has started with features that may be useful but may not have been touched during the conference. It may be a set of great features, but much like the Wii, it didn't show the greatest part of the system until The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Hopefully it will come sooner than at the end of the system's life cycle.
The system also addresses the factor of outside entertainment apart from gaming. With the inclusion of Hulu, Amazon, Netflix and YouTube. After conference it announce that WiiWare and Virtual Console and Save will be transferable to the new Wii U. Even though a lot more features, have yet to be announce or for that matter showcased, it looks like it has more potential that shouldn't be dismissed.
Though the Nintendo is focusing on launch titles, it may start to go the way of the 3DS and have a weak start but a fast acceleration. Time and time again Nintendo still amazes even though it might not give great things right away. But even after the presentation Nintendo is still releasing info. Hopefully, the press conference will not the all Nintendo has to offer this week.
